The purpose of this blog is to facilitate discussion of a writing exercise whose use I’d like to try promoting in the schools. To learn more about this exercise, my thoughts on lowering the barriers to adoption, and how you can help, check out the four topics in the About section below on the right, starting with The Exercise.

Help!

Posted: November 19th, 2009 | Author: Freeman | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

My job situation might be changing in a way that will leave me no longer free on any weekday afternoons, which means that I won’t be able to make many visits to schools to pitch this idea, or administer any trials that might be set up this year. Therefore, I need your help!

I’ll still provide the poems and written instructions and helpful hints, but now I need others to talk to the schools they’re associated with about this idea, and/or to spend maybe two afternoons a week for ten weeks overseeing the kids who agree to try it.

If you’re a parent or a teacher or a school administrator and you’d like to see this idea tested, please contact me!

Thanks.

Freeman

more poems

I’ve just added about a dozen new poems to the list, and also provided text for poems I couldn’t find already online.

Poems!

I’ve gone through most of my poetry books and generated an initial list of poems! (It was a wonderful experience, reviewing all the poetry I own. I highly recommend it even apart from the task of finding poems for this exercise.) You’ll find the list on this new blog page I’ve created. I’ll be adding more poems to it in the future and posting the news here.

Please send me your own suggestions!

Initial Thoughts

Now that you’ve read about my idea (through the three topics under About to the right) I’d love to hear what you think about it. You can email me your feedback directly or simply comment on this post.  As new ideas and suggested texts come in, I’ll report on them in future posts.

I hope you’ll be able to help me with this project. I think it has the potential to provide enormous benefits to students in schools all over the country at very little cost.

Note: If you want to follow the discussions here without having to constantly check back to see if anything new was written, simply subscribe to the RSS feeds on the right for Posts and/or Comments. The Posts feed will keep you informed of any new posts I make, while the Comments feed will track every comment made to any post.

If you don’t know what RSS is, here’s a good (though old) tutorial. You can see a pretty comprehensive list of existing RSS readers here. I recommend narrowing your choice to one of the web-based services. I personally use the Google Reader.
