The year of getting published

I’ve been writing poetry and short fiction for years now, but have never tried very hard to get any of it published. Toward the end of 2009, something changed in my thinking: I decided not only to start sending many of these old pieces out, but to seek publication in other forms, in any way I could. I decided that 2010 would be the year I push myself out into the world.
I’ve started this blog in order to document that effort. In this inaugural post, I’ll list the projects that are already underway since I made my end of year resolution.
In the last couple of months, I’ve:
- Begun blogging on Open Salon.
- Submitted five poems and four short stories to various print and online magazines, including two science fiction stories that I never thought I’d try to get published anywhere.
- Begun posting YouTube videos of myself singing songs from the Lord of the Rings.
- Started working with an illustrator friend on a picture book that we plan to self-publish later this year.
Finally, there are the two books that I have been trying to get published for a while now: my YA novels.
And that’s where I’m at right now, as I launch this blog. Please stay tuned for news of further developments!
